Ely Joint Use Facility
State-of-the-art facility for muliple government agencies
The concept of the Ely Joint Use Maintenance Facility was to construct a state-of-the-art service center occupied by multiple governmental agencies. Under tremendous leadership by administrative staff and elected officials, the City of Ely Public Works Department, City of Ely Public Utilities, Saint Louis County Public Works, and Lake County Public Works, joined resources to develop a joint use facility that replaced each entity’s aging buildings. The success of the project was to house the four agencies on one site, under one roof saving money by creating efficiencies in the delivery of services and by sharing overhead costs.
The facility has interior parking for the entire truck fleet from all agencies using high bay construction. It also provides a repair bay area for heavy equipment maintenance in which each repair bay is serviced by one of two 5-ton bridge cranes spanning 54 feet each. The welding bay is supported by 1 relocated 5-ton bridge crane from an existing facility and a new 2-ton jib crane. The automatic wash bay equipment, built locally, by Power Rain allows for effective daily cleaning of vehicles. The office, locker rooms, crew break rooms and conference rooms provide support for the day to day operation.
This project will improve the delivery of services and reduce the long-term life cycle costs to the districts constituents now and into the ever-changing future.
