Duluth Public Works
Combining departments is functional
The City of Duluth restructured their public works division in an effort to consolidate services that in the past had been spread across numerous different divisions. The effort was two-fold; to reduce the cost of the delivery of their services with a continuously shrinking budget and also to improve upon the quality of their service. The sewer division and water and gas division are now consolidated due to the completion of the construction of this facility.
An extensive amount of planning went into the process. Significant changes were made as to how services are delivered. Staff participation was critical to the success of this project.
The precast concrete and structural steel building includes 42,000 sf of heated vehicle storage, 20,000 sf of shop space as well as 20,000 sf of offices.
