Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College

Higher education in a natural environment.

The Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, in Cloquet, Minnesota, is located on a former tree farm and is sheltered and surrounded by the mature Norway pines. The building forms and details reflect the dual mission of the college: the heritage of Native Americans is reflected in the forms and symbolic colors in the efficient modern structure. Design elements reflect materials characteristic of the site. The center circle, which forms an amphitheater, was constructed of logs harvested from the site. The exterior is clad in brick of the same texture and color of the tree trunks.
